1. Cordless Drill Motors
I have been using many engines for some time to carry out rc tank or other projects. Among the cheapest are the cordless drill ones that you find on the flea market. These motors have a voltage of 12 to 24 volts and a fairly high amperage of 12-20 amps, I assume they are even stronger.
In my Rc Tank TRA MI project I use two 24 volt motors but with 12 volt power supply and 4amp discharge they are strong enough. If I added 24 volt batteries it would be stronger and faster.
2. Windshield Motors
Later I tried the windshield wiper motors on 12v , these motors are strong enough for rc tanks and have a large reduction pinion, moreover you can use them more easily on wheels because they already have a 90 degree angle. These engines are also inexpensive and can withstand higher loads.
3. Scooter Motors
The last motors I want to try for the Heavy Rc Tank project are the electric scooters, a little bigger than 24 v and 250 / 300w which require an amperage of 10-13 amps.
They are a little stronger, but for some you need gears and gears to build a gear that reduces speed and gets torque. I want to use these engines for projects over 50-60 kg, because they are strong enough.
You can also use the servomotors 5/6volts for small and light rc tanks projects, they are easy to install and use. They can be connected directly on the wheels of the rc tank , on the turret , to the cannon, but these small servomotors will not survive on heavy loads , maximum 10kg robot . Be careful what materials you use.
5. Worm geared motor
I tried to use this motor for my t34 rc tank as well, but they seem too weak, at 12 volts and 100 rpm they really have low rotation per minute but they don’t have power, torque. I recommend using them on small projects for spy robots or small things. I wanted to add these engines to my t34 tank which weighs about 20 kg but fails to spin .
6. Wheelchair engines
Some of the most optimized motors for homemade rc tanks are wheelchairs motors , they have a voltage of 24v , which are strong enough to carry a wheelchair and a person, they already have the controllers in them. If you have money you can opt from the beginning for these engines for a rc tank project of over 100 kg.
